| Dr. Harry R. Sampey has donated an additional $60,000.00--bringing his total contribution to $160,000.00--to ensure the successful completion of the park and pavilion that will bear his name. The additional monies will pay for extra drains, parking facilities, and other necessary items. Dr. Sampey reports: We have had more than our share of rain this spring and summer. It has held up not only construction but has really delayed painting and landscaping which is an important part of the park. As a result, dedication has been rescheduled to July 29, 2000 at 3.00 P.M. Hopefully, the guests will not have to walk around in mud. The Pavilion is nearly completed and we have received 25 beautiful octagon shaped tables (each table seats eight) made from cedar. The gas-fired BBQ (Fireplace) which is a load bearing center point for the Pavilion has a 4.5 X 7 foot cooking grill. The Pavilion sports 32 interior lights and 8 exterior floods plus a flood for the flag. The stage is currently on hold waiting a larger support beam. The design features a 14 x 30 foot stage with 10 x 30 foot male and female dressing rooms. The park rest rooms, which feature hot water, should be completed this week. Work is in progress on the fencing and the parking lot, and should be completed within the next 10 days. |
