| The Maryland Woodworker web site offers free web space to woodworking clubs located anywhere in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. Free space is also available to individual woodcraftsmen and women everywhere, both amateur and professional. Whats the catch? Only that The Maryland Woodworker wont write your HTML code (i.e., wont prepare your web pages) for you or scan your images; you must submit your ready-to-post HTML files and images electronically. Please refer to the submission guidelines below. You do not need to know how to prepare web pages if you only want to show some photos of your work; see below. You must also agree to the Terms and Conditions for the use of The Maryland Woodworker web site before we can post your material. Qualified organizations and individuals as described above who already have a web site may submit the URL and the name of the site to The Maryland Woodworker for posting on a forthcoming Links page. If you already have a site and just want a link to your site, you might consider sending a photo to go with the link. If a whole page is more than you want or need, qualified organizations and individuals may submit individual photographs of their work for inclusion in our Gallery. Please refer to the submission guidelines below. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

Submission Guidelines: If you wish to show photographs of your work without having web space on The Maryland Woodworker you do not have to submit html pages. Just send your photographs as e-mail attachments. Make sure that you have captions for the photos, and that the webmaster can clearly identify which caption goes with which photo. Images must be in JPEG or GIF format (no BMP's!) with a preferred (not mandatory) size of 3.75x5 inches (270x360 pixels). Image resolution must be 72 pixels per inch--no greater, no less. If this is babble to you, or if you don't know how to use your software to prepare an image in this way, please obtain instructions locally; there are too many computer-scanner-software combinations for us to be able to offer advice on their use. Poor-quality images will reflect poorly on your organization and this web site. Photographs must be of high-quality, i.e., be sharply focused, have good color quality, and be well-lit. Avoid over-compressing, which leads to blocky compression artifacts. Historic photographs may be in black and white. The JPEG format is suitable for ordinary photographs with a full range of tones. The GIF format is suitable for text and logos presented in image form. The "Maryland Woodworker" logo at the top of this page is a GIF image; the images below, examples of acceptable quality, are JPEGs. Woodworking clubs that wish to participate in the Maryland Woodworker should designate an individual or committee to work with us in order to prevent the submission of duplicate or conflicting information. E-mail us with your ideas or questions. |
