It is with deep regret that we note the passing of Perry Townships
oldest resident, and Perryopolis.coms oldest participant,
Mr. Frank T. Mills. Mr. Mills died on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at
age 109. Mr. Mills attended the Jackson School, which still stands
near the intersection of Cemetery Road and Virgin Run Road, from
1898 to 1902. He is entered on the Classmates
page, and we are pleased to learn from his niece, Brenda Mills Burkholder,
that his entry brought him a few e-mails. Mr. Mills enlistment in
the Army in 1916 also earned him a place on the Veterans
page.
Mr. Mills was born in Vanderbilt, son of the late John D. and Mary
Margaret Marshall Mills. He was a poultry farmer at Virgin Run for
many years. and he was well known for his deliveries of eggs to
residents of the Perryopolis and Belle Vernon areas. Mr. Mills was
a member of the Flatwoods Baptist Church and Curfew Grange No. 1052.
He also held an honorary membership in the American Legion.
Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his wife, M. Viola (Snyder) Mills;
three brothers, Wilbur, William, and Lewis Mills; and three sisters,
Mary Allison, Stella Eichler, and Ethel Autmuth. He is survived
by a sister, Mrs. Edith Lint, of Osprey, Florida; and by several
generations of nieces and nephews.
