| It was right smart of George Washington to buy his land [on which Perryopolis is now situated] so close to major transportation routes. In Georges day, major transportation routes meant the trail that is now U.S. Route 40 (The National Pike) and the Monongahela and Youghiogheny rivers. While the rivers are still viable transportation routes, the following assumes that you will travel by wheeled vehicle, although river transportation is available.
