Our Theme: “Scratching People Where They Itch”
by the Reverend Karen Willis
What kind of a church theme is this? Well, think about it this way. Have you ever had an itch that you couldn’t reach and nobody was around to scratch it for you? Have you ever had poison ivy and were told not to scratch it, and just couldn’t resist? Have you ever had an itch that you could reach and scratch, but it just wouldn’t go away and no medication would help? It can be pretty miserable.

But there are other kinds of “itches.” They are Spiritual and Emotional itches. As human beings, we wonder why bad things happen to good people. We wonder if there really is a God who loves and understands us; a God who answers prayer, a God with whom we can have a conversation. This kind of itch represents the biggest questions of all: “What is the meaning of our lives? Why are we here? Does life end with death, or is it eternal? Is this all there is? Is there nothing more?”

People who turn to churches and religion of all different brands have been asking those questions since the beginning of time. The Christian Church actually began with dissatisfied people who thought Jesus’ new ideas scratched and healed their itches. They needed something. We all have Spiritual itches. Our church is looking for ways to “Scratch people where they Spiritually itch.” We need your help and would love to get to know you and have you worship with us and share your ideas and hopes for the future with us.

We are a little country church where everybody knows your name. We are a church where many prayers are said and people are committed to prayer, and we have many wonderful stories of answered prayer to tell. Not all turn out the way we hope, but many have, because everyone pitches in.

We want you to contact us at and tell you where you “itch.” You may e-mail Pastor Karen Willis at or phone the church at 724-326-9920. The church phone number has voice mail that is checked daily. We want you to give us your ideas.

Please help us by completing the following questionnaire:

Finally, are there any controversial issues that you would like to study or have addressed in the context of a Spiritual Christian setting? Please remember that Christ is not Jesus’ last name. It is a Greek word that means “God with us.” God with us, in my opinion, means acceptance of all of God’s creation. The glory of Creation lies in its infinite diversity. God made us all and God doesn’t make junk. We may not be perfect, but we are forgiven sinners if we only ask “God with us” to forgive us. ALL ARE WELCOME!
